Yes. AI reads your panels, understands the story and characters, and writes your narration script. Think of ScrollBard as your studio and the AI as your writing assistant. The spoken voice is a separate step, handled by a voice tool such as Edge TTS or Kokoro.
You have two main ways to connect an online AI: sign in with a supported ChatGPT or Claude account, or paste an API key from an AI provider. You only need to choose one to get started.
Your ScrollBard plan and your AI provider’s plan are separate. Choose a model that can read images for panel analysis.
Yes, through the supported account connections. You use your existing provider login instead of copying an API key.
For an individual Claude account, you need Claude Pro at minimum (Max also works). This means Claude’s paid plan, not ScrollBard Pro. ChatGPT access and limits depend on your OpenAI plan.
Generations use your provider’s allowance. If you reach its limit, you may need to wait for it to reset or choose a paid usage option. Signing in does not make usage unlimited.

An API key is a private access code. It lets ScrollBard use an AI provider’s models outside that provider’s own website. Create the key in your provider account, then paste it into that provider’s API key field in ScrollBard’s settings. Keep it private, like a password.
Paid API use is usually pay as you go. Many providers let you add a small amount of credit first. As the AI reads panels and writes scripts, the cost comes out of that balance—like topping up a prepaid phone. Other providers bill for usage afterward.
The starting amount and price depend on the provider and model. More panels, longer scripts, and generating again can use more credit. Check the provider’s billing page, including any automatic top-up setting.
A ChatGPT or Claude subscription does not automatically pay for API-key usage. API billing is separate from both that subscription and your ScrollBard plan.

Yes—some providers offer a limited free allowance. You still need a provider account and the appropriate connection in ScrollBard.
Free models, credits, and limits can change. If you reach a limit, you may need to wait for a reset or add paid credit, depending on the provider.

No. It is an optional, experimental workflow. Compare the cut against its source, adjust the narration and image choices, and switch back to the original version. Changing versions requires rebuilding the timeline.

ScrollBard is a Windows desktop application. This website introduces the tool and provides an account area. The desktop studio is where you work on chapters, narration, and timelines.
Use stories, panels, music, and voices that you own or have permission to use. The studio helps with production; it does not grant rights to someone else’s work.
